For Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg, self-reflection is serious business. Vestberg started the routine in 2009 after becoming CEO of Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson, and he's done it "every day" since, he said. Each morning, Vestberg ranks his mood "from 1 to 10," he said, helping him get into the "right mood and right energy" to do his job. Jerry Colonna, an executive coach sometimes known as the "CEO whisperer," has a similar routine called "radical self-inquiry" that he says helps him make better decisions. The trial began Tuesday with talk of the "future of the internet" but quickly plunged into the weeds of commercial agreements with Android makers like Motorola and Samsung. James Kolotouros, a Google executive responsible for negotiating the company's agreements with Android device makers and carriers, testified late in the week that Google pressed Android smartphone makers to have Google as the default search engine and other Google apps pre-installed on their machines. The antitrust fight has major implications for Big Tech, which has spent years being scrutinized by Congress and antitrust enforcers. Google argues that its search engine is wildly popular because of its quality, and payments to wireless companies or others were compensation for partners. The government also questioned a former Google executive, Chris Barton, who was at Google from 2004 to 2011.

Verizon has created a way for customers to block spam text messages from email accounts with just a single text, the company announced Tuesday. Verizon customers can text "OFF" to 4040 to block email-to-text messages, more than 80% of which are identified as spam, the carrier said. This simplifies the earlier process that Verizon had in place for turning off email-to-text messages. Text spam has been a persistent issue in the U.S. in recent years. Verizon said users who change their minds about opting out can begin receiving email-to-text messages again by texting "ON" to 4040.
